Prime Minister
Mr BATT (Hinkler—Deputy Nationals Whip) (13:45)
I outlined in my very first speech to this House back on 30 July last year that we as elected representatives need to lead from the front and be positive role models like our mums and dads, our nannas, our nans, our pards and our fearless pioneers.
When I grew up, it was these very special people in my life who taught me the lesson that honesty is the best policy.
Serving as a police officer for 23 years, I shared that philosophy with the people I came across every day: honesty is the best policy.
Proudly representing my community and local council and in state government, being authentic and honest is what mattered the most.
Australians deserve honest leadership, not a prime minister who repeatedly lies to them.
Many in the Hinkler electorate tell me that this country is headed in the wrong direction. Small businesses are feeling the pinch right now. Their customers are under pressure. Did Aussie families see the $275 reduction in their energy bills, the promise this prime minister made almost 100 times?
Since Labor was elected, Australia has had the biggest fall in living standards in the developed world. Labor’s record spending means the budget is now forecast to be in deficit for the next 40 years and debt has passed $1 trillion. Labor’s toxic taxes are an assault on aspiration.
Why do Australians always pay the price because this prime minister can’t even admit he’s made a mistake?
