The Federal Member for Hinkler David Batt MP has congratulated Robbie Lewis on his selection to represent Australia at the 2026 World Eight Ball Pool Championships to be held in Morocco next month.
The Bundaberg pool player and former schoolmate of Mr Batt has wielded the cue since he was 18 years of age.
“Hinkler keeps on producing the world’s best and now I urge everyone to get behind Robbie in his bid for an eight-ball world title,” Mr Batt said.
“I have known Robbie since we were kids – we attended primary school and even played soccer together. I remember Robbie’s father was a champion pool shark too and it’s great to see the talent passed down the line.”
Mr Lewis said it’s a tremendous honour to represent Bundaberg on the world stage.
“I still can’t believe I’m representing Australia in eight ball. After much travel, practicing and playing at a high level this is the pinnacle of my career,” Mr Lewis explained.
Robbie is a local and regional champion representing the Bundaberg 8ball Association and has been in the Queensland team for the past five years, including three years as vice captain.
“Nothing is going to be easy at the world titles. They are the best of the best, it’s the elite from all over the world. I’ve ramped up practice and I’m playing more tournaments in the lead up.”
Robbie is searching for a major sponsor who can support with flights and accommodation costs.
“Any financial assistance would be greatly appreciated,” he said.
“I’m Bundaberg born and bred, my father was a legend of Bundaberg 8ball and I’m sure he’ll be looking down proud when I’m wearing the green and gold in Morocco.”
Mr Batt added:
“It is only through the generosity of individuals, local businesses and organisations that give players the opportunity to compete at prestigious events such as the World Championships.”
The 2026 World Eight Ball Pool Championships – hosted by the Ultimate Pool Association of Morocco – take place between September 17-27.
