Hinkler National Youth Parliament announcement

The Federal Member for Hinkler David Batt MP is pleased to announce Bundaberg State High School’s Seth Johnson as the local Member for National Youth Parliament 2026.

The Department of the House of Representatives and Y Australia today revealed the 150 participants for the National Youth Parliament 2026.

The National Youth Parliament, to be held in Canberra from 16-20 August 2026, will empower young Australians from all walks of life with the knowledge, confidence, and skills to actively participate in Australia’s democratic and parliamentary system.

The fully-funded initiative will bring together secondary school students – who will each represent one of Australia’s federal electorates – to Parliament House and the Museum of Australian Democracy (Old Parliament House) for an immersive five-day program.

David Batt MP, a former Bundaberg High School Student, was proud to see Seth announced to represent the youth of Hinkler.

“I often quote the motto of Bundaberg State High – ‘Per Ardua Ad Astra’ – through hard work, the stars, and I congratulate Seth on this appointment,” Mr Batt said.

“Seth is an exceptional young leader and will be a wonderful representative for Hinkler.

When young people understand how the system works, they are better equipped to hold it accountable — and improve it.

This isn’t just good for Seth. It’s good for the Hinkler community.”

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Honourable Milton Dick MP, said ‘We received 2,200 applications for National Youth Parliament, reflecting the strong interest among young Australians in learning about civics and our parliamentary system.’

‘The future of Australia is in the hands of our young Australians, and the National Youth Parliament will give them real opportunities to learn how our system works and engage with our country’s great democracy.’

Seth will represent Hinkler and was excited to have been selected for the National Youth Parliament.
