The Federal Member for Hinkler David Batt MP will take leave from Parliament for the remainder of the current sitting week to return to the flood impacted Hinkler electorate.
“It’s important I return home to assist my community where I can,” Mr Batt said.
Mr Batt organised a meeting with Minister for Emergency Management, Regional Development, Local Government & Territories Kristy McBain in Canberra before addressing parliament.
“Minister McBain has assured me that she is well aware of the flooding impacting Bundaberg and will be monitoring it closely,” Mr Batt told parliament.
“My office and I have been keeping in contact with impacted businesses and offered our support.
The people of Hinkler are tough. Together we will get through this flood like we have in the past. I say thank you to those who are standing up and supporting friends and strangers in need.
Times like these bring out the best in our people. To my community, please stay safe and stay informed.”
Mr Batt remotely joined briefings with disaster management teams and received briefings throughout Tuesday. He is scheduled to depart Canberra on Wednesday morning.
