A fairer go for small business in Hinkler

Federal Member for Hinkler David Batt MP has welcomed the Coalition’s plan to back small businesses to invest with a permanent $50,000 instant asset write off.

Announced in last week’s Budget in Reply, the Leader of the Opposition, the Honourable Angus Taylor said any business with a turnover of less than $10 million will be able to immediately deduct assets costing up to $50,000 on a permanent basis.

David Batt MP said this will help tradies buy tools, farmers buy equipment, cafes upgrade kitchens, and small businesses and local tourism operators invest with confidence.

“When a builder buys a ute, they can do more jobs, take on a new apprentice and grow their business,” Mr Batt said.

The Coalition will also fight Labor’s changes to Capital Gains Tax (CGT) and trusts which he said are an attack on small business.

“We will back Australians who work hard, save hard and want to get ahead, because Hinkler and indeed our country is worth fighting for.”

Mr Batt wants to remind small businesses across the electorate of Hinkler to complete a short survey in the month of May to better understand the challenges locally.

“We’ve already had a strong response with more than 50 businesses providing direct feedback. The more I receive the better for Hinkler.”

Hervey Bay Chamber of Commerce President Jayden Christie is urging local businesses to have a say.

“Small businesses are the forefront of our region and yet they face the biggest challenges from the economic climate at present,” Mr Christie said.

“From rising fuel and transport costs, increase in wages and worker retention to the inflated cost of every expense.

So, I urge every small business owner to take the time to complete the small business survey. The information provided helps to grow and support our region by ensuring key decisions are made with the contribution of small business front of mind.”

The Coalition is committed to protecting Australians way of life and restoring their living standards.

“We stand for lower inflation, lower interest rates and lower taxes,” Mr Batt explained.
